The Grounds
The Manor House is surrounded by over 365
acres of woodland, parkland and gardens which are passionately
tended by a team of gardeners and groundsmen, blissful to work,
play or ‘just be’ in!
A collection of
styles
Overseeing the extensive grounds, golf course and the
wide array of beautiful gardens that have been established
here has been Paul Bishop, our Estate Manager for The
Manor House Hotel for over the past 13 years.
‘The gardens combine Italian, Classical and
medieval Gothic styles, created originally in the mid 19th Century
by George Poulett Scrope. The Italian Garden is the most striking
feature with its ornate Garden Steps leading to the Gothic
style Summerhouse which has fantastic views of the river Bybrook
and the valley beyond’.
‘The Kitchen Garden and Orchards also dates from
the mid 19th Century and today produces an array of fruits and
vegetables including the little known Scorzonera, looks like a
carrot/parsnip, apparently tasting slightly like Oyster!'
Lush greens!
As well as the gardens there are the Manor House Lawns
along with the Putting Green, Croquet Lawn and the
Championship golf course.

beauty with its daily hand cut greens, manicured tees and fairways,
however this course offers a diverse range of wildlife and
habitats. In amongst magnificent mature oaks and field
maples you will find Woodpeckers along with Tree Creepers and
Wrens.
If you tee off early in the morning you will regularly
encounter Roe and Muntjack deer along with foxes, badgers and
bats! The river Bybrook meanders its way through the Course and is
often home to the Dipper, Heron and Kingfisher whilst if you look
to the skies you regularly see Buzzards, Kestrels and
