Local Produce
The Manor House is devoutly committed to
supporting Food Heroes, an Exclusive Hotels initiative to promote
and work with local suppliers, so that they can source the very
best seasonal produce in and around Wiltshire and develop
excitingly varied menus.
We don’t just talk about it to impress, we actually do it!
Chef can often be found planning and helping to plant the
Vegetable Patch and Kitchen Garden so that it’s bursting with
flavoursome and interesting produce.
Food Heroes also reduces the amount of ‘food miles’ allowing the
team to revive original, powerful tastes and flavours often lost
through travel. This can only be done if you invest time
investigating the source of fine ingredients.
We thought you might like to meet a couple of our suppliers and
enjoy knowing their history.
Eades
Mike and Tony run Eades Veg Shop in Bath.Eades are an
institution in the city and have been producing and providing
homes, restaurants and hotels for the last 35 years.
They are a family run business that has grown alongside the
hotel and catering industry in Bath.Their products are consistently
excellent and everything is handpicked by Mike or grown by Tony,
this ensures we as a hotel get top notch fruit and vegetables all
year round. Mike picks courgette flowers in the summer for
The Manor and they are in front of the customer 6 hours later,
potatoes, broad beans, all manner of squash, pumpkins, baby fennel,
fennel tops, kale, the list is endless and it’s all grown by
themselves.
You can see the pride they take in their business by the
quality of the produce they provide.
Castle Combe Organics
Jane and Karen run this salad and organic vegetable business in
Castle Combe itself, they are three hundred yards from the hotel
kitchen, so it doesn’t get more local than that.
They provide The Manor House with salad leaves such as tree
spinach, mustard leaf, pak Choi, green purslane, mizuna. They grow
everything themselves organically in poly tunnels.
They are a very small business with select clients and they
started off by growing for their own families but as they got
better they approached us and we snapped them up!
We are very proud to use them as one of our food
heroes.
